Hampton is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It's located on the East Coast of the United States along the Atlantic Ocean. Hampton, NH is home to Hampton Beach, a well-known summer tourist destination. According to U.S. Census of 2010, the town of Hampton, NH has a population of nearly 15,000.
Hampton was one of the four original New Hampshire townships that were chartered by the General Court of Massachusetts. It was first called the "Plantation of Winnacunnet," which is an Algonquian Abenaki word that translates to "pleasant pines." The town was settled in 1638 and incorporated by 1639. After the railroad was built in the 1850s, Hampton, NH boomed. It remains a popular summer tourist destination today.
